Update on Art
and Soul
The students
will have large blocks of art during April 27th and 29th,
and May 1st and 4th. There will be mixed grade groupings.
Some art formats
will be: 3D Art, textiles, print art,
ceramics, wood working, 2D art, etc.
Students will
choose the art format that they wish to work with. It will be documented with movies, pictures,
and artist write ups.
Input on grade 5 Field Trip Opportunity
TMC School has
received the opportunity to send 60 grade 5 students to a 3 day, 2 night camp
in Waterton National Park from May 27th to 29th. The camp
is funded 100% by the Federal Government, and it aligns to the grade 5
curriculum.
There will also
be field trips planned for the grade 5 students that will be remaining in
Calgary, which will also focus on the grade 5 curriculum.
The process of
choosing the 60 students that will go to Waterton National Park will be lottery
based. A letter of intent will be sent
home to the parents to find out which students are able to attend; those
students whose parents agree to the fieldtrip will then be entered into the
lottery. Please keep in mind that 8
parent volunteers are required, and their children will have priority.
Please watch for
more information from the school.
Traffic Issues
It has been
brought to the attention by a community member that parents/guardians continue to
not follow the traffic signage. PLEASE think of our students’ safety
and drive with caution.
Skateboards and Scooters
Currently, the
school is looking into outdoor locking systems for these items.
Conferences
The next Student
Led Conferences will be held on April 9th and 10th.
High School Feedback
The Calgary
Board of Education is in the process of developing a “Transition to High
School” handbook for junior high students.
Currently, each high school compiles their own handbook, and the CBE
would like to develop one consistent handbook for families.
Janeen Werner-
King from the CBE, will be present at our April 1, 2015 meeting. We strongly encourage families of students
from grades 7-9 to attend.
Committee Reports
Titan Lunch – P. Mylrea

March. If you can volunteer for April,
May or June Titan Lunches, I have 5 or 6 per lunch, and need at least 32,

Communication Coordinators – N .Odina-Seale
We would like to encourage
the parents of TMC to act now to speak out against the proposed Education
Budget Cuts.
We were very surprised to read the part about 70% of funding for private
school comes from the government.
Here is the link to the Government website…http://education.alberta.ca/parents/choice/private.aspx. The
Government funds 70% of the cost of students attending funding private schools.
Please share this information with other concerned Alberta Parents. PLEASE voice your concerns to our
MLA Sandra Jansen, she needs at least 50 letters/emails before she can act on
anything. Sandra Jansen, calgary.northwest@assembly.ab.ca.
Fundraising
– S. Merkle
The next School

Outdoor
Fitness Area – P. Mylrea
We applied to
the Alberta Government CFEP grant on December 13 for a
potential matching grant of $125,000.
It can take 6 – 9 months to process and provide funding. On February 9, I was contacted by Irma
Chaffey, CFEP grants consultant, who advised she has the information she
requires to forward our application for funding consideration. February 25 I contacted Sandra Jansen’s
office regarding our application, they sent several emails to inquire about our
progress and will contact me when they have further information.
To date, we have
raised approximately $215,000 in
cash and in kind donations and if successful with the CFEP grant for the full
amount and in a timely manner, hope to build in the spring/summer 2015. Our project budget is just under $340,000.
Crowfoot COBS
Bread will continue to donate 5% of any
purchase to this project when you mention Twelve Mile Coulee School fundraiser
at the time of your purchase.

whopping 1400 cookies to fundraise for this project. To date we have raised $ 4915.15 through
Cookies by George sales. Thank you Lisa!
