In the link below is a poll as to whether parents think that diploma exams should be worth 30% instead of 50%. The school boards are presenting a proposal to the provincial government to change their policy. If you would like to see it changed, please take a minute to vote and please pass this on. Perhaps too late for the grade 12's this year, but it is being presented in
November 17th so you never know. I think it is just way too much stress for these kids, and puts them at a disadvantage when competing with other students applying for university. I realize our government sees our high standards as a point of pride but it is done on the backs of our kids.
I would encourage you to take two more minutes and send a note to Alberta Education minister Gordon Dirks. If he is flooded with e-mails etc from parents (AKA voters) we can persuade him before this is once again dropped. I could not find a direct contact for him, or even Alberta Education, but the form below allows you to direct your comments to AB Education by choosing "Education" in the drop down menu.
