Hello Community Members!
It has recently come to our attention that there is an on going issue that is becoming an increasing concern to our community and we are hoping that bringing awareness to this issue will help to alleviate the situation.
Here are some portions from a few of the emails that have been received from concerned community members.
Skateboarders on the Tuscany Pathways:
(This is not intended to be a generalization of all Skateboarders,
this is addressing a small percentage of those who participate in this activity)

This situation has been discussed with the Local Community Police Officers (Constable Rich Wall, and Constable Christy Hystad as well as Sergeant Suzanne Westenburger). They are aware however they are limited to what they are able to do.
Here is a response from Constable Rich Wall:
“Under the Parks and Pathways bylaw skateboarding is allowed on the pathway as it is deemed a wheeled conveyance. There are areas of the city that they cannot skateboard but pathways they are good to use.”
“What we can do as the police. Well in this case we are very limited in what we can do…we as the police can try and address the issues surrounding the abusive behavior, throwing of litter and general rudeness if the kids display it. If it gets to a point where you believe that you are threatened, abused or have any property damaged then please call us and we will respond (depending on the call load)"
During the Tuscany School Council Meeting this topic was discussed with Constable Christy Hystad and the best thing to do when you come across this situation or any situation that is concerning is call the police (403 266-1234). They will categorize your call at the time it is received but it is always best to call and have the situation recorded and addressed especially if you feel threatened, abused or have any property damage.
Parents: please speak to your children about the importance of community awareness as well as respecting other community members. No matter the age of your child(ren) lets start that dialog and understanding of taking ownership of our community.
“seeing young people outdoors, playing is not something we want to discourage, kids should be able to enjoy our community if they live here, and they abide by respecting others.”
The Tuscany Club will once again be opening up their Skateboard park this summer and all Tuscany Club Members are able to use this facility as well as sign in guests that are non members to join them.
Let's work together to make our community the best one out there!
