Dear Principal and School Council Executive,
We are pleased to extend an invite for your school members to attend our “Math Excellence Night”.  Details are in the attached brochure.
This event is open to teachers, school council executive, administrators, and parents.  Topics include:
  • What are some best practices being used to achieve results in mathematics?
  • What specific ideas can parents use to support their child’s learning at home?
  • How are the needs of different populations being met? For instance, what strategies have proven more successful for students with English as a second language?
  • International Rankings – how does Alberta fit?
  • What types of assessments are best?
  • What is happening with curriculum design and changes?
  • With all of the discussion taking place about diversifying our economy, how important are math achievement and rankings?
As tickets are first come-first serve, if you are interested in attending, please register by Tuesday January 26th

Choices for Children - Raising Decision Makers at Home and at School

This gentleman is coming to speak at Teacher’s Convention in February and there is a session for parents if they are interested.

Dr. Alfie Kohn, best-selling author of 14 books on education, parenting and human behaviour, will be speaking at the University of Calgary on Thursday Feb 11, 7pm  His lecture will be on“Choices for Children…Raising Decision Makers at Home and at School”. In his talk, Alfie will offer practical suggestions for shifting away from a model based on control in families as well as in classrooms, and explore common fears about doing so.
